H22a VS H22a Type S

Does anyone know the major differences between the h22 and h22 type 2.

From what I have read there is about a 20hp difference between the two.

Anyone know why? I have seen about $1000 difference between the two also...

Pistons? Cams? Intake manifold?

H22-S has different cams, stock ported head from the factor, higher compression (11:1) Intake manifolds are the same across the board.

Non-typeS have 10.5/10.6:1 compression

blkcurrantkord is correct, IMO its not worth the $1000 more, you can gain 20hp with mods that cost alot cheaper than $1000, and just get aftermarket cams cough skunk2 cough that will give you way better performance.

USDM H22 has a 10.0:1 ratio, JDM has a 10.6:1 ratio. is it worth an extra G? pricewise no, but convenience yes. Type S cams and pistons are also one of the best for this motor. factor that into the factory port job and intake manifold, and it isnt too bad. I'd personally rather have a Euro R H22 myself with the single stage intake manifold though.

with that 11:1 you would need almost 100 octane to be safe driving it with out pinging you got to think the japs gas is better and higher grade than ours is. Anything over 10.5:1 to one you are looking at at least 93 octane or higher preferably higher that compresssion is really high.

91 or 93 is perfectly fine for 11:1-11.5:1 compression. More like anything over 12 would need race gas or a mixture of race gas and regular gas (93 octane)

most likely, the manual says 93 octane for 11:1 too. i use 93 with my 10.6:1 and it runs great.
