how far can a brake cylinder go?

hey all, my master brake cylinder is leaking. Funds are tight, so how long do you think I can ride? It's not leaking very bad but it is wet on the booster. When I had my probe, the mech. told me I had about 3-4 months before it failed. Can this last a month or two before replacing? or is it a must replace now part. thanks for the input

No way to tell. How bad do you want your car to stop the next time you hit the brakes?

Are you going to be driving anywhere behind me??

Bolting it in is easy. Do you know how to bleed your brakes?

Have a bunch of rags. It'll get messy and brake fluid will eat paint off anything.

Get a flare wrench so you don't bugger up the gland nuts on the brake lines. Disconnect the steel brake lines.

2 bolts attach the MC to the vacuum booster. Then it 'just' pulls out. I don't have a '95 so I don't know whether you need to get anything out of the way.

Carefully compare the length of the new & old piston rod. Hope they're exactly the same. If not, there's a strange measuring tool and you adjust the push rod under the brake pedal.

Bench bleed the new MC. Get a couple hoses that fit where the brake lines go, loop them up into the reservoir. Fill it & pump the piston rod. After is sputters the air out, you'll be pumping liquid back into the reservoir to remove ALL the air bubbles.

When you install it the fluid will drip all over. The rags, remember?

Then bleed your brakes. Then bleed your ABS (if you have ABS).

once again, new plan. I have budgeted enough money to pay or labor. yay.
