how to make my car lighter

I would really like to get better mileage on my 87 Accord, with 124,000 miles on it. I know that I can do the basics to help the engine get better mileage, but what else can I do big time. Is there any big heavy metal stuff that I can take out or atleast replace with aluminum? Any suggestions would be great.

Hey!

It all depends on the extent that you want to go do. You could rip out seats, put on expensive light-weight wheels...bla bla bla bla. It's probably a practical car that you use everyday.

-I'd start with an air filter - a K&N drop-in.

-I recommend 91 octane gas - i've always gotten better gas mileage with higher octane and it's worth the money. Not to mention better starts and a smoother running car.

-Not sure if your car is fuel injected..... clean your injectors or carburator.

-Check all of your tire pressure. Make sure they are consistent and inflated. If they are low on air it can dramatically decrease your mileage.

-Clean your throttle body with spray cleaner

There's some stuff to start with.
