J30A build

I am looking to build a J30A engine for use in an airplane. I need at least 200hp to 250hp and as much low end torque as possible. What set up would you recommend, and where to get the parts?

Not that I can help much, but what RPM? 200hp at low revs means an awful lot of torque. Most times you increase HP by increasing RPM, not so much by increasing torque at the same low RPM. For example 200hp at 2000rpm means you need 525 lbf*ft of torque.

Looking to stay under 5500rpm.

Have you already chosen a propeller? I imagine that would dictate some pretty specific requirements of rpm & torque/hp. Taking the same prop& spinning it twice as fast as it's designed formight notbea good way to make more thrust.

go with a C engine bro... FI is avaliable for them... and power is ubundantly avaliable... (NSX motor would be ideal DOHC VTEC) but i wonder how a vtec engine would work in a plane... ur ass might drop out of the sky... 1-5000 ur fine 5000+ and u shift into vtec theres a huge loss of power for a few mili seconds

Are you talking 200HP as the top output or 200hp/high torque at say 1500 rpms?

RE: J30A build

Looking for 200hp to 250hp at the top end of the rpm range 4500 to 5500rpm. Prefer not to turbo the engine. I will use a PSRU (propeller speed reduction unit) redrive to control prop speed. I prefer the SOHC system, Fuel system depends on how reliable the control system is. Carb, TBI or DPI. Sound like I'm just scratching the surface of what this engine is capable of.

I personally would be hesitant to use a carbed motor on a plane since the temp and air/fuel mixture can be funky at higher altitudes and a fuel injected motor could compensate for that.... any reason in particular that you chose the J30A? or is that just what came to mind? Any weight restrictions for the engine that you have already figured out?

3.2 CL engine then ... SOHC VTEC 300ish HP nearly stock...

yea do you have a motor? or are you looking to get one?
