Junkyard or JDM for new engine?

Sorry for all of the questions about the rebuild, but after doing a little bit of research I've noticed a lot of Accord owners swear by JDM to order complete engines. Has anyone had any experience w/ these?

I found an engine for $499 on there, and the junkyards around here are charging approximately $250 for an engine, plus I'd need to order the rebuild kit which averages around $250-$350 on eBay.

It's really hard because it's between sight unseen (other than pictures) vs. not knowing if the car is in the junkyard because of engine problems.

I ran into this dilemma and chose a local junkyard engine (located w/ car-part.com), checked donor vehicle (vin) w/ carfax, inspected engine storage conditions (outside, inside, etc), and purchased insurance to cover labor if do-over was necessary (~ $200?). Everything worked out fine.

Engine was a Dodge Ram V8, not an Accord. Never had an engine failure w/ my accords.

good luck

I would go with the local engine as well, you can check it out before hand, know exactly what car it came from, and know right where to go if you have problems with it. The warranties offered by local junkyards are usually better than import companies, and its easier to bring it back to them.
