Maximun acceleration up to 2900 RPM Only!

I've just purchased an 89 Accord LX with carburetor, with 92K mi. that when accelerated to the floor, gets 2,900 RPM only.
It has had only one owner, has a like new body, looks very, very clean, includding the engine.
Some help?
