Need Help with 92 accord power loss?????

I have a 1992 Honda accord with 95000 miles on it and just passed smog today in California. The problem is the car has doesnt have full power, i had the catalytic converter changed and that helped alot but it still does not get full power. Took it up to the shop and they tested the check engine light to see what codes came up and it did nothing besides come, which according to the chilton book means that the ecu is bad. Went and got another ecu from the junkyard but the car is still doing the same thing??? please help if you can thanks.

What maintenance has been performed? spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor? Any recent work on the engine or under the hood?

Does it start easily? Where does lack of power show up; during acceleration from stop or once you are moving at speed and attempt to accelerate?

good luck

The work that has been done recently is; spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, timing belt, radiator and serpentine belt. Yes it does start up easily, the loss of power is during acceleration. I had another one of the same car and it accelerated much better.

THanks

Suggest the timing belt alignment beween crankshaft and camshaft be confirmed. If you're off one belt notch, it might run but cause your symptoms.

Easy to check timing belt alignment. Pull the rubber bung to expose the flywheel and turn the engine (use a wrench on the crankshaft bolt) to align w/ TDC on #1 (red mark). Then check camshaft alignment by pulling the upper timing belt cover. The TDC mark on the camshaft sprocket should be at the 9 o'clock position and aligned w/ top of the cylinder head. There is also a mark on the sprocket that aligns w/ the camshaft bearing housing on the inward side of the cylinder head.

Check base ignition timing is aligned (15 deg BTDC) correctly.

Is engine idle stable at about 800 rpm when fully warm?

Is Check Engine Light on currently? If yes, suggest you get your own codes by shorting the service check connector, turning keyswitch to On, and reading Check Engine Light flashes. Download a 90-93 Accord shop manual from Online Manual links in DIY forum of this site. Also search DIY's for guidance on the procedure.

good luck
