Neutral Dropping?

How bad is neutral dropping for your car? I heard about it briefly from a friend of mine that neutral dropping skews up the transmission (especially on a new car). Is that true? Supposedly it isn't harmful if it is done on a stick shift because there is a clutch... however it is harmful to an AT?

Anyone know how to explain it?

Thanks.

RE: Neutral Dropping?

Holy crap! That is the quickest way to fry your tranny! It is bad in both cases, though it is more hurtful to an AT because AT's are weaker than manuals. AT's have many bands inside of them which causes more resistance along with a pump, hence why manuals get better mpg.

Anyways, when you rev your car, and then "neutral" bomb it you are demanding your transmission to catch up the the rpm speed immediatley. This cause a little grinding, and depending on how sticky your tires are it can destroy a tranny. Neutral bombs = retarded anyways.

Dont do it if you care for your car. Those honda auto's are weak enough, cant imagine neutral droping them.
