New guy with old problems.
 

whats going on fellas, i just joined this site because i am at my wits end with these mechanics that give you the run around. so i said to myself, why not start learning for my own from fellow accord owners. i have owned three accords since i turned 18, a 90, 92, and now a 99. i dont mean to start my membership here with an issue but yesterday i ran into a problem with my clutch..The weirdest thing happened to me, when i was driving and coming to a stop on a red light, i was coasting in 2nd then engaged the clutch as i was coming to a complete stop and put it in 1st as i waited on the green light. before even the green light turned, i felt the clutch pedal depress all the way to the floor and the engine turned off???? i freaked so i put the car in neutral but the pedal was slow to come back. i depressed the clutch pedal again to turn the engine on and it stayed on but, the pedal stayed down and i could not put it in ANY gear so i had to push it to the side of the road (as it was on since it was easier to steer). i was able to pull the clutch back with my hand and it would stay up, but if i was to push it back down it would stay down. this happened yesterday evening, this morning i checked the pedal and when i push it down, it does push back but with a small delay as if its sticking or something. i need your help guys i want to know if this is a problem that I can fix or if im gonna have to take it to a trans specialist. all replies are appreciated, thankx for viewing ladies and gents.

It sounds like your transmission is not having any issues, so you won't need a "trans specialist". That said, the hydraulics for your clutch are not so healthy. It sounds like either the master clutch cylinder or the slave cylinder (or both) have failed. Another possibility is a fluid leak in the hydraulics.

thanks man im glad to hear its not the tranny, but im not sure where the master and slave is located on this car, is the tranny gonna have to get dropped to access it? also why do you think the car would turn off? that freaked me out the most.

The clutch master cyl is on the firewall on the drivers side - would hurt to check the fluid level in the res - follow the hose from the clutch master to the res.

The slave is on the trans, left/pass side front. Should see it bolted to the trans between the rad and trans,,,,,got pics if that will help.

I'll guess when the hyd went the clutch released and that what stalled the engine :shrug:

i did check the fluid for the master and the level was in between the minimum and max levels and didnt noticed any moisture or leaks around there. i will check the slave and master, hopefully, today. i am very bummed since this was my first owned stickshift (but i am not a rookie ) and i owned it since april, it had been a blast to drive since then, i have not experienced any other problems with this car mechanically other than the vtec going out on me 2 months ago but i figured that out and got it fixed. but both replies have been very helpful. thanks guys

Sorry to hear about your problems. How many miles are on the transmission/car? I had a 2004 with 210K and it started getting difficult to shift, unless I double-clutched. If I did it was like butter, just a pain to constantly do so, up or down. Anyway, my guess is as stated by shipo and poorman, and my other suggestion would be to obviously bleed and refresh the system. Good luck.

@poorman, thanks dude i really appreciate it. @biffy, i bought the car from a dealer in april with 129,xxx. the car never gave me any shifting problems. i hadnt driven stick in about 4 years prior to getting this car but it was like riding a bike. it didnt even take me a day to gauge the clutch and gas pedal. with that being said, this is the first time something like this has happened. and yes, bleeding the system is indeed mandatory with a situation like this. thanks again guys! hopefully i dont post any more issues with this car any time soon lol i will post updates and pics soon.
