I have a honda accord 1999 with this code(cylinder 2 misfire). Before my car overheated and spark plug boot melted on to the spark plugs so it was hard to get out but i did it. I changed the spark plug and the code still shows up. Would it be a fuel injector? I do get the smell of gas when the car is running Any ideas what it might be.

If it got that hot you might want to do a compresssion test and see what that shows.

How do you do a compression test?
|
The spark plugs are brand new. They still might have low pressure?
|
There is a "gauge" you can rent/buy that will read the compression of the cyl's. With the over heating I'm worried that the head gasket could be damaged.
If the compression is ok, then I would then be sure the normal tune up items (cap, rotor, plugs, inspect/replace wires) are up to date. Once the above is confirmed and the issue is still there we can get into more testing. |
Thank you. I will do the compression test today. Also the spark plug wire doesnt have that much of a tight fit in that cylinder as the other ones. Would that be a damaged head gasket?
|
Just because the wire is not seating doesn't say the the head gasket is done. More towards a "bad fitting" wire.
IMHO - For a wire set, prestolite or NGK is what I would go with. For spark plugs I would stick with NGK. |
I currently have ngk wires that were replaced right after the heating problem. I still might need new ones?
