Radiator Replacement

What would the cost of this be?

Went outside to check fluids and noticed my coolant was low and that there was quite a bit of it on the engine and valve cover. It is leaking from the very top of the radiator where it meets the plastic cover.

Hmmm, I see they are $106 @ Advance Auto. Anyone know avg. time required to replace it/cost @ a shop?

live2rice 05-10-2009 06:47 PM

dude its so easy, do it yourself.

undo hoses

undo 4 bolts

lift out

put new one in

do 4 bolts

attach hoses

fill with fluid

let run with cap off till the air bubbles stop

done

Thanks Cam!

What about all the coolant? I have never changed the fluid so where do I drain it?
And how many gallons do I need? I would prefer to just get all the old stuff out.

Coolant drains at the bottom with a butterfly screw.

If only you where down here, you would get that radiator for little or nothing.

So when I replace this, will all of the coolant drain out?

Any radiator you guys recommend? I had a couple people tell me to get it off radiatorbarn.com They have 2 versions:

And Cam, its not a PITA to get it past the fans?

live2rice 05-11-2009 05:58 AM

You drain the coolant from a valve at the bottom of the radiator as chris said.

You may have to take the fans off..............either way its not difficult............or if you just unplug them they will probably come out with the radiator.

19Accord97 05-11-2009 10:29 AM

Should I replace the hoses and thermostat as well while I am @ it?

JimBlake 05-11-2009 12:12 PM

I would.
