Rough Idle: '93 Accord LX; 94k miles

Hello Honda Forum,

I have just inherited my mom's 1993 Accord LX with 94k miles on it. Working on it to give to my daughter. It sat derelict in a garage for a while, so it needs some TLC.

I have replaced the faulty Transmission Control Unit which gave it some new life. Engine and transmission now serving up very adequate torque. However, the vehicle idles rather rough. When stopped, even the steering wheel rattles. Placing the selector in Park or Neutral stops the shaking, but that is not the real solution.

Any suggestions? Might a simple tuneup be sufficient for this?

Thanks.

I'd start with this:

Honda idle-control systems don't like to be adjusted by personal taste. Do the procedure as-is.

Be aware the bottom end of the tach is funny, but I don't remember the details. What should've been the first minor division in the scale is missing, so the first mark is 500 or something like that (instead of 250).

That car also has a vacuum-operated engine mount back between the firewall & transmission. Problems with that can cause excessive vibration in D or R. Search for information about that in General Tech.
