spark plugs for 97 accord lx coupe
 

My car is at the 90k mark and the spark plugs need to be replaced for the third time. Can I use the NGK platinum plugs or are there any other plugs that will for for my car that won't have to be replaced every 30k miles?

Most people here will tell you to only use NGK plats. I put Denso's (AutoZone was out of NGK's)in my wife's 95 V6 and have not had a problem.
But please, do not put Bosch plugs in. Your Honda will beat you if you do that.

I don't remember exactly, but I remember people talking about rough running issues and/or causing the distributor to need replacement. Basically I think Honda's are allergic to them.

Yeah the NGK plats are pricey, but I've heard they are worth it. I think the OEM replacement plugs are the double plats which run around $12 a pop. So if you got a V6, that's $72 just for plugs!

haha wow... wait what would be 12 bucks a pop? the ngks or oem... because my brother told me for his mazdaspeed he uses ngk and they are only like 6 bucks each

OEM NGK's for a 97 aren't that expensive....

as for the bosch thing what they figure or have determined is that they run a different resistance and this causes your ignitor/coil to overheat (inside the distributor) and then it fries, and it's not a cheap part.... They aren't bad plugs but they are bad for most imports, Just a few months after I joined the forum I was talking with a friend of mine and he was telling me how he helped out a guy we both know. The car was running like crap and then wouldn't start, bad ignitor/coil, they replaced it and a couple of months later it did it again, they determined through trial and error that it was overheating, so the rigged it outside of the distributor to the fender well with some longer wires etc and never had a problem again. I said to him "I bet you have bosch plugs in there don't you?" he looked at me like he had seen a ghost and admitted that they were but wondered why I asked, I told him, they switched to NGK and never had a problem again. So I have personally witnessed what happens...

OK...this is wierd. I just checked sparkplugs.com. When I was replacing the plugs on my 95 it said oem was part#PZFR5F-11which are the double plats ($11.71 each). Now it says ZFR5F-11 which are not even platinum(V power)& only run $2.44 each. That's wierd. I have always been told Honda OEM's were the NGK double plats. That is the part number(PZFR5F-11) deserthonda always gives anyway. I'm confused.

Desert usually lists the ZFR5F-11 plugs, I think that's what he uses on most everything except maybe some of the newer distributorless cars..
