sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
uhm so my car was squealing everytime i started it, i got upset went to autozone and i found a "brake disc" spray that said on it "stop high squealing bla bla" i was like sweet, sprayed it onto this belt thingy, and turns out i sprayed it onto my alternator drivebelt. is this a bad thing cuz like i was spraying it directly onto that belt... the squealing stopped, but i dunno if i did a bad thing..

RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
If it said it was for brakes, it was for brakes. Not your belts. Go get a can of belt grease or spray. It should say it right on the bottle. Next time ask the people at the counter for help.

RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
yeah dude why are you spraying brake cleaner stuff on your belts in the first place?
|
RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
Oy! I'm surprised it hasn't eaten through the belt yet! Bra-kleen is potent stuff!
|
RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
It will probably shorten the life of your belts substantially.
If I am not mistaken, brake cleaner will take all the moisture out of the belt causing it to dry, harden, and increase the chance of cracking/snapping. What uh made you decide to us brake cleaner instead of a belt quieter spray? |
RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
I had some stuff for brakes, it was pretty much like silver spray paint. NOT brake cleaner. If it was actually that stuff, then it may not have done too much damage to the belt.
Still, if the belt was squeaking, you probably needed a new belt anyway. |
RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
yea yea i kno im not taht great with cars :( the hardest thing ive ever done was putting in a keyless entry system and hte box said it was supposed to be easy! lol
anyway update i got a spray called belt dressing by stp or something, and i bought a new serpentine belt. i have the haynes manual for my car, but i dont kno if im gonna be able to replace it myself so i think ill have a shop do it. anyone kno aroudn how much it shuold be or if its doable by myself? thanks! |
RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
Change the belt now, it's just that simple.
|
RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
why did you think that your brakes are belts?....hmmm...see this is why there are mechanics,so they can help you from making mistakes like that...
|
RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
75% of employeesat parts stores are complete idiots. They know nothing about cars.
|
RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
i second j_man haha, they are retards there just there to make money. they dont know jack about cars. umm i work at on honda dealership and your best bet is to prolly not go to a dealership cuz they will over charge you. that belt doesnt take to to long to change out but they will charge u a good maybe 150 bucks to do it. so ur best bet is to do it your self or go to like a pep boys or midus, somewhere with CHEAPER install rates.
|
RE: sprayed on wrong spray... problem?
Lol so you don't think the dealership is worth the money?what if you need like a full blown diagnostic and service!
