Strange belt noise

I bought a certified 04 accord coupe and the belt makes a whinynoise when i hit 4-5000 rpm in 1st and 2nd gear. I'm guessing it's from the alternator belt.. Is it normal to make that kind of a sound? Btw, the car has 45K+ miles.

Maybe try checking the belt tension. I think there are belt dressing sprays to help stop belt slip.
Are the belts old and dirty or newish and clean?

Check the belt tension, but don't overtighten the belts. That can overload the bearings in the alternator & AC.

As the belt gets old, it can get hard & slippery, maybe without developing cracks. If the tension is correct but it slips, try belt dressing. That stuff tends to be only temporary, but it can help you prove that the noise is caused by a slipping belt vs. some other problem.

No, it's more like a high pitched noise. and its worse when the AC is on.

If the car is certified, can't you have the dealer fix it for free?

To narrow it down, get a long rod of metal (something kinda thin will help, I use an old rifle bore cleaning rod) and touch it to the base of where the pullys are connected while its running (DO NOT PUT IT ON THE PULLY!!!). Alot of times, even on "certified used" cars, the bearings in the pullys will go out. Not an expensive fix ($50-$100 depending on whether they can replace the bearing or have to replace the whole pully). If you notice that the base of one of the pullys sends a rattle or vibration up that rod, but not the other pullys that belt is connected to: its a bearing/pully.
