Surging Idle
 

Hi all. I've been in an out of this forum trying to solve my lingering issue- surging idle and codes P1165, P1167, P1169. I can't seem to figure out the mystery after reviewing many posts and replacing too many parts. Aside from the codes, the car warms up fine with the expected high idle but once warm slips into a surging pattern where it surges between 2000 and 1000 RPM. Also, the car idles a bit high when driving around town. On a few occasions, the idle surged up to 2000 and got stuck at 2000.

It's a 2000 Honda Accord SE with 2.3L ULEV engine. I had to replace the upper cylinder head last November and after much struggle, got the car running but I still have the above named codes. Based on feeds from this forum, I have replaced the #6 fuses on both sides of the car, replaced both up and down stream O2 sensors with OEM Honda sensors, High Idle Control valve, a couple of vacuum lines and nothing seems to make the code go for long. The biggest sense of accomplishment I had was when I went from one code (P1167) to two codes (P1165 and P1169) after changing the fuses. I figured that had to be telling me something. I also saw something about the MAP sensor that I didn't see before so I have one of those on the way.

Can anyone point me to a feed where someone has solved this issue or provide advice on how to identify the true root cause.

P1167 & P1165 are related to the upstream O2 sensor (it's actually a wideband A/F sensor). Since you replaced it, look for wiring problems for that.

P1169 doesn't exist in my list (1998-2002 Helm shop manual)
