Timing Belt replacement by mileage or years?

Have 99 Accord 4cv. 48,000 miles, dealer suggests replacing timing belt and water pump. At what mileage/time should the belt and water pump be replaced?

Got your owner's manual? I'll guess but you should check it.

It probably says 105,000 miles or 7(?) years, whichever comes first. Cut in half for 'severe service', which includes a lot of people. Many people change them early, just because of the nasty consequences of letting it break.

If you don't drive much, the belt can still rot from simple age & heat. Especially if you live somewhere hot, you want to pay attention to the years.

I would go with the dealer recommendation

I have a '98 V6 and my dealer did not recomend a t-belt service at 90K He stated come back in about 120K basd on belt's current condition. My dealer stated that V6 rarely need valve adjustments and they usually recomend t-belt at 120K. I will be getting my belt at 105K though (later this year)
