Type of Pulley
 

I have 98 honda accord v6 coupe. I want to get a set of orthodox pulleys but theres a couple different types out there. I was on horsepowerfreaks.com and theres a couple different sets such as the Ultra SS, Ultra SSc, two piece, three piece, etc etc.

my car isnt boosted so which pulley set would be best for me?

There are 3 pulleys that UR makes for your car. The accessory pullies are stock size, but much lighter. The crank pulley can be lightened and underdriven or only lightened. I have the underdriven set (all 3 pullies) and have never had any problems. The biggest gain, if you are looking to save money, is in the crank pulley (this fact really sets UR ahead of AEM).

Best bang for the $: Underdriven crank pulley only.

Im comparing the UR Ultra SSc 3-piece and the UR Ultra SS 3-Piece, price wise, theres a 50 dollar difference.

Apparently the SSc is ideal for superchargers but im not sure.

As of now, im leaning towards the first link. Would changing the three pulleys be not as effective as changing only the crank pulley?

Along with the belts, should i also change the main seal? (i read something about the main seal being changed for safety reasons on a review)

The second link SSc's are stock diameter but lightweight, so you gain the power from the reduced weight but nothing is underdriven so it's still working just as hard to turn all the accessories, this set is ideal if you have a fairly large stereo since it doesn't decrease the output of the alternator, the first stet the SS series is all of your underdrive pulley's (crank included) and is more effective than getting the crank only.

Stock Stereo: SS
Large Stereo/extensive electronics: SSc

I didn't do the main seal. 3 pullies are better than just the crank, but the most gains come from the crank pulley. For product info, you are better off using the manufacturer's website. http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/

Like you said, the SSc setup is what you'd want for a supercharger setup, OR if you do not want to underdrive the accessories. The reason that this is desired for a SC setup is that with FI, you don't want to uderdrive accessories, plus the supercharger actually runs off of the alternator pulley so if it's underdriven, you are underdriving the SC itself defeating it's purpose some. For your application, I'd do exactly what I did to mine which is the SS kit.

Is underdriven bad? I have HIDs, 2-12" subs, and a radar thats plugged in constantly. So i guess i should invest in the SSc, but then i'll still be using the same amount of power to work everything...which isnt as benefical as the SS kit?

How much power is your system pushing RMS? Also, how often do you have it real loud? They say that the underdriven pulley is ok for a 600 W-RMS system. Mine is well below that .... for now. When I had/will have a sub, I use a capacitor to help lower the peak draw.

The HID's actually lower the electrical demand on the car since they are 35W where the stock bulbs were 55W.

well, my two subs are pushin 1000watts. i have a 2 farad capacitor but have yet to installed it.

1000 Wats RMS or peak? If it's RMS, you probably need the cap and a second battery because you are borderline with what the stock alternator can handle. If you don't slam it too much, the cap will keep the car from seeing the full draw. When I get my sub amp, I'll re-post wether or not I have any issues since I'll be running almost 1000 W-RMS. I play music loud in my car, but hardly ever at the max.
