US Army Soldier needs help: High Rev
 

I am home on 2 week leave from Iraq. I just replaced my clutch master and slave thanks to the great write up by deserthonda (thank you!). Being a newb to cars I was quite happy to be able to fix my clutch issue. Now my problem is that my car has "no go". I was began to experience 6 months ago. Now it is very bad. The car will shift fine, but the rpms run really high, almost redline, in 2-5 gears but will not pickup any speed. For example I will be in second with the pedal floored, but will only get to 25 mph; shift to 3rd and redline barely getting to 30 mph, and so on and so on. I hope this is something I can fix myself.

im betting ur clutch or tranny is f***... if the engine is reving its got to be a slipping clutch or a bad tranny

What model do you have? dnasantiago basically has it, your transmission is rendereduseless...maybe your clutch connections are wrong... otherwise, I would just go see a mechanic...

Sounds like the clutch itself is slipping. Now you're looking at removing the tranny in order to replace the clutch.

Thanks for defending our country. As a Navy Vet, I salute you. I hope you get your ride repaired quickly. Being on leave goes by waaayyy too quick to be messin' with a car.

I'm Army as well and did my tour at the start so I feel your pain man! I'd agree either the clutch cable is adjusted improperly and not allowing the clutch to seat/grab fully or the clutch itself is bad.

You guys are awesome. At this point I am convinced it is the tranny / slipping clutch. Too bad it is something too major for me to fix on my own. Like I said, as a newb it was an awesome feeling to be able to replace the my clutch master and slave cylinders on my own. Well thanks again to all of you. You are why I do what I do.

Check your cable first and see if you can adjust that... Chances are that's not going to fix your problem (if it's been getting progressivly worse) but it's worth a shot. Also, if you can find someone with a little bit of knowledge you could do the clutch yourself, it's not as hard as you may think it's just time consuming, you can download a manual for free from the link below (unless you have a really new car)

if it has clutch master, it is hydraulic system,, no clutch cable ..
