Violent shaking at 3000rpm
 

I drive a 00 Honda Accord coupe. I've noticed while driving it has lost a lot of power and sometimes violently shakes at 3000rpm. I also ran out of oil. The guy at auto zone ran the code and he said "it might be temperature sensor or crank sensor" any help or suggestions would be great so I can save money. Thanks

Intermittently. The code is P1381

P1381 is an intermittent electrical fault in the cylinder position sensor (CYP). It can be caused by faulty sensor, faulty connector or wiring, or faulty ECM/PCM.

Suggest disconnecting, cleaning, inspecting, and reconnecting the 4-wire connector to distributor.

The problem can only be investigated when code and symptoms are present.

Basically, the procedure is to disconnect 4-wire connector and check resistance of sensor (800-1500 ohms pins differ based on what engine you have F23 A1, F23A4, or F23A5. If test is good reconnect, and check resistance again from the ECM/PCM connector C, pins 29 & 30. If good again, the ECM/PCM is faulty and should be replaced.

Note, if you try this when code is not present (or possibly when present), the results will indicate faulty ECM/PCM when intermittent may be in distributor.

I had this fault on my 94 EX and it finally got persistent enough to allow testing. Result was faulty ECM.
