Why SOHC?

I just can't figure out why Honda is going SOHC for Accord V6's.. Wouldn't DOHC be better for numerous reasons? (i.e. Light-weight, better performance)

RE: Why SOHC?

Er.. correction to my post: DOHC is heavier than SOHC...

It's an economy car, not a performance oriented car.

RE: Why SOHC?

Plus DOHC is more complicated/more expensive. SOHC is easier to build/cheaper.
I do wish it was DOHC though[:@]

YUMMY Dohc V6 just think about a NSX engine in your accord.

I was about to mention the C30 engine!

Speaking of theNSX: I was waiting while I was getting the oil in one of the company cars changed the other day and I was browsing through the car section of the classifieds. There is an Acura dealer in town that has an earlier 90's model NSX w/ under 50kmilesfor around $32k! I thought that wasa prettylow price for any NSX. I wonder if there is something wrong with it.

Test drive it immediately!!!!! While were on the subject, a few days ago, I saw a white Corvette with an NSX wing ..... that thing was SWEEEEET!

Speaking of NSX I just heard Fifth Gear say that the Civic type R in Japan is only one sec slower than the NSX on the test track.

RE: Why SOHC?

:Dyou should not drive the nsx until you can afford to buy it (and that day could be today)....cause it just makes it more painful...

RE: Why SOHC?

LOL ..... go bowling, then test drive the NSX!!!!

RE: Why SOHC?

I would never test drive it because I'm too practical to buy it. The only way I'll ever buy a 2 seater car is when I'm retired (only about 41 years or so to go.) Then the NSX will be an antique! I will probably do my best to squander my children's inheritance on frivoulous fast cars, etc..

Who said anything about buying it? I'd just test drive it to have driven one.

I found out we use 4 valves per cylinder which works kinda like the DOHC? I think.. EH.. I don't really care now :) Thanks for your replies!

Not at all. # of valves has nothing to do with the camshaft driving it and if you think that more means better, take a look at the fastest production 4-banger made, the Esprit. It had 8 valves.

Why ask if you don't care?

To me, test driving a car like that would be like trying heroin for the fist time. Once you try it, it's all you think about anymore.

LOL .... good point, but I'd still try the car.

RE: Why SOHC?

When one of my friends was ttrying to decide whether or not to get his Phd, we had a discussion about drinking. We were at a huge conference in DC, and usually inthe evenings, we'd sit around and play cards and drink.

Well, he didnt want to drink this time, cause h'ed given it up. We were shocked! This guy was a huge drinker. Apparently he went home over the holidays and got drunk and was doin lines of coke off the table with his old high school buddies, and it scared the sh*t out of him.

We couldnt decide what was more a mazing. The story he was telling, or that he was contemplating getting a PhD when he'd been doin lies less than a week ago.
