when i start my accord, it putters when in idle, then when i go to drive it i went to the end of my street and it keep puttering and slowing down and didn't feel right, maybe the timing or something?? It was fine the day before. Needless to say I turned around and took it home before I damaged it even more. Any ideas what it could be? please and thanks

 

and it's automatic trans...

 

and by putters in idle i mean it has a rough idle, and drives rough and feels like some power loss...

Are your maintenance items up do date, most importantly the spark plugs?

Do you have access to a code reader?

Do you have gas in the tank?

 

i just recently baught the car, and know that is was sitting for a long period of time before I got it, so I don't know what items are up to date and what isn't. definitally has gas, infact i just filled it almost all the way up not long before it happened, so it's def got gas. i won't have access to a code reader for a little while. also i smelled gas when i just recently moved my vehicle to the other driveway, and the rpms at idle bounce up above 1000 then back down and back up...

 

Did the check engine light turn on while driving? Did the D4 light start flashing?

 

yes, the check engine light is on while driving and while in park now, and the d4 light was not flashing...

 

Please get the codes, some places will read them for free (autozone?, a few others). they should have a "P" and four digits.....like "p1457".

That will help....

 

Suggest EGR port cleaning - but read the codes!
