04 honda accord v6 timing belt
 

all is going pretty smooth. I was able to remove the crank pully with no trouble. I have both front and rear t-belt covers off. I have all the bolts out of the bottom cover accept the 10 mill at the top of the front side right. I am getting my a*& kicked by that one. the serpentine belt tensioner is in the way. I loosend the alternator and moved that as far as I could forward. I can just get a box end wrench on it and turn it 1/8 a turn. It looks like that tensioner needs to come off. How do I do that? It is spring loaded and I want to make sure if I pull it off it will go back on with no trouble.

Are you talking about the auto tensioner? If so you'll need to compress it, then there is a "pin" slot where a locking pin goes in to hold it.....

You need some guidance. Check for honda V6 timing belt on youtube. I found some very good videos.

You also need a manual. Suggest a emanual from ebay seller automanualsource for $21.99.

The tensioner has to be removed completely for tbelt change.

Iwatched a few vids. They were very helpful. As is this forum. I got everything off. I ended up buying a new t-belt tensioner from the dealer my old one was just starting ti leak. I put the new belt on. It is a little snug. All 3 marks were lined up. I rotated the engine 2 times clockwise and the 2 top are still lined up and the bottom is behind a bit? How could that be. Any help on this will be a big help. I won't be able to work on it until mid day tomorrow. Anyone have any thoughts??

The youtube videos depict various methods of maintaining snug belt while string (jim clips and plastic wire ties). These are designed to avoid jumping a cog will stringing the TB around the sprockets. Suggest restringing very carefully using one of these methods of maintaining snug belt.

Also it may be possible to jump a cog while turning engine over, if the TB tensioner is still restrained w/ pin stop.

With some time and patience I got everything lined up and back together. Fired right up and runs great. All in all about 7 hrs spread out over 3 days. Had a weekend planned with the fam. Anyway, I am pretty excited that I was able to tackle this job! I think I pushed the envelope on this t-belt and water pump. 04 accord has 186 k on it. This is the first time it was done! The old belt still looked great and it was tight. The hydrolic tensioner was just starting to seep some fluid. (that I believe will fail first causing the belts to loosen up and jump a cog).

I did a similar job on Acura MDX 3.5L V6 and spent two good days or part time effort to get the job done.

I wonder if you're close by so i can hire you to do mine :D Local dealer's quote for that job is $1,000. (By the way, the manual recommends replacing the belt at 105k miles. Good to know it may last for as many as 180k miles. I definitely won't listen to the dealer, who wanted to replace mine at 90k miles.)
