08 Accord rear brakes 4 cyl
 

I have an 08 Accord and I have removed the old pads but I cant get the caliper to release. It is the ones on the rear on 08 Accord 4cyl 4 door. Any help will be much appreciated.

PS I have the car apart so until if figure out how to fix it I am dead in the water

By release do you mean you can't get the piston to go back into the caliper? ABS brake pistons need to be turned and pushed back in, but I'm not sure how since I've never owned a Honda with ABS

Yes the piston had slots in it where it looks like it is meant to be turn but it wont budge. That is what I need for the piston to go back into the cylinder so the pads will fit over the rotor.

Make sure the brake fluid reservoir cap is off to allow air to come out, you will need a C-clamp or something to push it back in, brute strength is usually not enough.

Don't use a C-clamp. Rear caliiper pistons HAVE to be twisted. That's the handbrake auto-adjust mechanism, not the ABS.

Car-parts stores sell a little tool like a cube. Fits onto a 3/8" socket extension, & has various sizes/shapes of pins to engage those slots in the piston.

I've used a putty-knife as a big screwdriver. Once you get it started, it'll probably become easier.

Watch you don't wrinkle & tear the rubber dust boot around the piston...

Thanks guys, I finally got it. I tried pushing it and it wouldn't budge till I realized the slots were there and it needed to be twisted. It just wouldn't not twist on either side, I guess I couldn't get enough leverage on it. I got to cube tool you were talking about at the auto parts store and it did the trick. At first it still didn't want to twist but after a quarter turn it got easier. Anyway job done, tested and working properly. Thanks guys
