08 Accord Rear Deck Rattle
I have an 08 Accord and the rear deck is rattling. It is probably the most aggrivating noise i can listen to while driving. Normally i put the volume up on the radio but why should I have to do that when i own a practically new car. This is not a stereo issue just a squeaking/rattling issue coming from the rear of the car. You can only hear it from inside of the car and not outside. I searched for other posts on this issue and found nothing, So i now turn to anyone out there that may have had this issue or know someone who did have this issue and was able to correct it.
Please HELP!!!!! Thank you, Rob |
Warranty!
Aside from simply telling the dealer to FIX IT, probably the only thing you can do is put someone in the back seat to listen carefully & pinpoint the location of the sound. Is the rear seat-back latched? |
The back seat is latched. That was one of the first things I checked. I was hoping someone knew of an easy fix on it. I really don't feel like dealing with the dealership on this one. I already dealt with the air sensors on the tires and the rear brakes. I love the car but it is really starting to give me a headache with all the stupid things going wrong. Thank god i paid for the 100,000 mile warranty or I would be in some serious debt!!!!

Don't worry be happy.
Honestly your dealer should be able to fix it in about 5 minutes. If you want to fix it yourself. Climb into the trunk, lower the trunk interior light, and look into the hole where the light sits. There is a large plastic hook that hold the deck trim to the sheetmetal. You just need to find a way to prevent the hook from rubbing the body. I usually just pry the hook away and jam some foam tape between the hook and the body. |
Thanks mcnoople,
So the problem lies within the actual trunk light assembly? What is the hook for? I may take your advice and fix it myself instead of wasting a bunch of time taking it into the dealer, since it will take them an hour or so to figure it out, then write up the paperwork, then fix it. You know how the process works. No offense to the workers as they have to go by the books but for us, the consumers, it sucks to have to sit and wait for something so simple to be fixed. Rob |
It is not the trunk light that makes the noise. It is the hook that holds the rear deck trim to the sheemetal of the rear deck. It passes through the rear deck right above the trunk light. The trunk light is held in by 1 tab on each end. After it is out of the way you can see the hook with a penlight.
The only way it would take an hour for your local dealer to figure it out is if they are busy on other things. This is a real common noise on 08 accords. If you absolutely want to confirm that the hook is the source of the noise bang on the bottom of the rear deck (from inside trunk)and you should hear your rattle. Then put your finger against the hook and bang on it again if the noise is gone then the hook is the noise. |
Ok thanks, i tried messing with it quickly last night as i was walking out of work and noticed the noise went away for the ride home. It did come back on the way to work this morning so it seems as though the hook is making the noise. I am going to try and fix tonight after work and I will reply with my results.
Thanks again for your input in this as it was driving me crazy. Rob |

08 Honda Accord Rear Deck Rattle
Has anyone Come up with a Permanent Fix to this, besides trading in the Car? Dealer wants $800.00 to Pull Rear Deck Panel. This is after Having Done Service Bulletin 08-083 and 08-074 Several Times with the Felt Tape. Has anyone just taken out the Plastic Rear Deck and Replaced it with Carpet?

hi! new to this forum. i just picked up an 09 Accord EX sedan, driving it home from the dealer i heard the rattle and it drove me nuts, 20K out the door on a car and i have a rattle!! pissed!!!
ive been a professional mechanic for 30 years so i spent 20 minutes checking the rear deck, no rattles there. driving the next day i hear it again and ive solved the problem. its not the rear deck at all, its the front passenger headrest. if its all the way down it rattles like crazy, lift it up a click and the rattle is gone. funny thing is while driving the sound hits your right ear and seems to come from the rear deck. it now drives like an Accord should |
