1-8 ABS code 94 EXI-S auto
On first start up the abs all works fine-light goes off and ABS works. However as soon as you turn the car off and start it up again the ABS fails - light stays on and ABS doesn't work .Test it and a 1-8 code comes up.
Leave the car for an hr or so and then start it and the same sequence of events happens. Is the modulator unit shot? There's no visible fluid leaks If the modulator was shot wouldn't the ABS be out all the time? Any thoughts greatly appreciated |

A code 1-8 is for the high pressure side of the system.
I attached TSBs dealing with ABS problems of this type. I never tried these repairs, but you may want to take a look. |

This is the troubleshooting for DTC 1-8.

There is a good supply of used modulators available at low prices (< $50). Check car-part.com.
Modulator can be replaced easily. Be sure to use a 10mm flare tubing wrench to loosen tubing nuts to avoid rounding the nuts. good luck |
Thanks for input Folks.
Just bugs me that the modulator isn't down 100% of time--then I know for sure it needs replacing . $320 For a secondhand unit here in NZ. Ordering one this morning. |
After reviewing all the info available took a punt and replaced the accumulator. A quick and easy job. $345 NZ for a new one though!
Pleased to say that the trouble is now sorted. |

Thanks for coming back to report the problem and fix.
There was a revision to the service manual for the 94-97 Accords, which stated: Before you troubleshoot another ’94–97 Accord for ABS DTC 1-8 (high pressure system diagnosis), add a note in the S/Ms about replacing the accumulator before you replace the modulator. |
That's about $250 US, not a bad price for a new or even rebuilt unit. thanks for followup.
good luck |
Hi, my abs code is 1-8, my educated guess is accumulator, ive done all the proper bleeding, happened to pick up this accord from IAA, and will need to get inspected from State patrol, so thats my issue. looking around i feel like the best choice is so buy a brand new one which will run me $350+ usd.. i might try to hit a junkyard and pull one but not sure if i will even find one and if i did it would probably be shot too. this accord has 180k miles, probably will find other accords way past that.

My 95 US accord had no issues with the abs modulator with over 300K miles when I sold it many years ago.
I'd probably take a gamble on a used unit, since it isn't terribly complicated to replace. |
