1990 Accord exi stalling when coming to stop

hi, my 1st post. ive searched the site and have founhd some great information on stalling however not anything to do with my exact problem.

the car will start, run fine at revs then when you pull up at an intersection it will stall , everytime. things i have already replaced include..

fuel pump, ecu, low idle valve, ignition switch , throttle body and sensor, coil in distributer, exaust 02 sensor. also changed plugs/leads and reset timing.

thanks for any help in advance

Does this happen when the car is warm, warm=normal temp of the engine. Cold it acts fine, once to normal op temp the problem happens?

Have you checked for faulty brake booster? Have you tried to stop with e-brake only? Just for testing purpose only, you know. Do it in vacant lot.

thanks for the responses ,

happens when car is any temp

went for a test drive after removing radio/backup fuse for a few minutes.

used the emergency (handbrake) only

still same problem.

This is pretty weird. Try putting the car in neutral and try the brake pedal to stop the car. Also try putting it into neutral and use the e-brake.

You can also try checking for error codes. Look at DIY section for how to check cel codes.

What is your idle speed/RPM?

IAC valve? Out of adjustment on Idle screw?

is there away of checking o.2 sensor front of engine at manifold

When started, will engine idle steadily at 700-800 rpm warm or 1000-1500 rpm cold?

If yes, then something may be happening w/ the transmission to stall the engine. The lock-up torque converter can refuse to disengage, causing the engine to stall. Very similar to a manual shift car coming to a stop w/o engaging clutch.

Suggest shorting the service check connector, and reading the D4 or S light flashes for codes. Some trans codes don't automatically set D4 or S flashing.

good luck

thanks everyone for the help so far..

have now test driven car and stopped with foot brake and then emergency brake whilst car is in neutral. no change

removed exaust manifold shroud to check for another sensor. no extra sensors

re checked ecu and tcu for error codes on instrument display

ecu check - engine light comes on and remains on when blue connector is bridged

tcu check- no lights come on on D4 display.
