1990 accord now running but running weird need help

I got my accord running thank seemed to take forever to get it back running lol. Okay so it ended up being the whole distributor was bad so i went to a salvage yard couldnt find any out of my year honda accord witch is a 1990 but we found one from a h22a vtec..... we test fitted it on my year accord that was in the yard there and it fit right up so we went home and put it on fit right in and after some timing it finaly started but now it is running slugish and weird anyone have any ideas on what to try to fix this plz let me know... thanks

Did the distributor drop right? Did you remove the spark plug wires from the cap?

90accord90 01-17-2010 09:01 AM

yea it dropped right... yes i did.. is there any possible way it could be the distributor im using since its a h22a distributor and i put it on my f22a engine???????

Did you get/borrow a timing light & set the spark timing? The mounting details for a H22 distributor might be slightly different, so unless you actually used a timing light you don't really know.

Wrong spark timing can absolutely make the engine sluggish.

okay so that distributor should not be hurting my car or anything right.... im going to ask someone who owns a shop if they have one i can borrow tomorrow and i will let you guys know how that all goes....

Pretty sure that if the timing sensors (inside the distributor) were incompatible, the engine wouldn't start. At least it would throw a check-engine light.

But the mounting position (rotating within it's slotted mounting holes) might be just enough different that the spark timing is off.

edit ----------
Wait... your other post IS about a check-engine light. We need someone who can answer that one about reading the check-engine light. I'm really only familiar with the newer cars that flash the CEL itself. DesertHonda or HondaDude should know about the older system with the LED flashing in the ECU.

I’m running an h22 dizzy on my f22a. It works just as good as my external coil dizzy.
Now when you installed the h22 dizzy what size fuse did you use when you looped away from your external coil? (you had to have done the loop since you got the car to start) I’m using a 30amp fuse. Get a GOOD timing job and it should run fine. Another thing how many miles were on the h22 you took the dizzy off of? Dizzys are the most expected thing on a honda engine to fail...it's gonna happen no matter how much you baby the car.

So sweet someone else has put the h22 distributor in the f22a..... okay im okay with cars but when you mean i looped away from the external coil what are you meaning.... there was about 90k on that h22 motor

Some Honda engines have the coil inside the distributor - some are external coil. If the 2 engines (yours & the donor H22) are both internal, or both external, then you don't do anything special. It depends on the year, you can't just say "H22".
