1992 Honda Accord EX Sputtering

I have a '92 Honda Accord EX with about 200k miles on it. When in park the car idle's fine, when I set it to reverse the car shakes badly and acts like it wants to cut off and sometimes does. When accelerating the car will sputter a few times and either take off or cut off. I've replaced the spark plugs, and the wires are only a few months old. Can't seem to figure out what is wrong with the car. Thanks in advanced!

Any stored codes in the ecu? After that, if there are none.

Suggest, checking/replacing the cap and rotor, if they have not been done or are due.

Does this happen all the time or just when the car is cold/or only once warm?

Happens at anytime. Earlier I just turned the car on and put it in reverse and it cut off. Sometimes it can run for a little bit then it will happen.

Check for codes and inspect the cap and rotor. Need to rule these out before going further.

The cap and rotor was replaced at the same time the spark plug wires were, around November 2010. I don't know how to check for any stored codes on the ECU, but wouldn't if you reset the battery it would reset the computer?

Ok, didn't know you did the cap and rotor already, saw the plugs and wires.

At the top, there is a "Sticky"-Common DIY Threads. In there you can find out how to check for codes....IMO, finding the connector will be the hardest part of this.

Yes, you can reset them, I just hate to do that without knowing what they were. or IF there were any. Both (code or no code) can be important for the next steps.

Your car may be running a little lean. Refer to these links:

Here's a thread on testing the TW sensor:

How do you test the ECU? I can't find out how.

This is how to check the codes and what they are on the 92 honda. How to find check engine codes on a 92 Honda accord
