1993 Accord, Speedometer stopped working

After a little fender bender, the speedometer, windshield wipers and cruise control stopped working. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I replaced the VSS and the Speedometer still doesnt work. Any suggestions? Thanks

Where did your car get hit?

front driver side...

Also, my D4 light blinks after a certain speed.

Check for engine and transmission computer codes. Read the thread in the DIY section called how to check CEL codes.

Count the check engine light flashes for the engine codes.

Count the D4 flashes for the transmission codes.

Let us know what each light flashes.

Great! the test worked perfectly. as far as the codes go im not sure. the engine light blinks either 7 or 8 times(not sure if the first blink counts because it stays solid a few seconds longer than the rest), and the D4 light blinks 4 times which the Code site says it is the Speed sensor which i replaced a few days ago... where do you think i should go from here? any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!

The TCU code 4 is for the VSS.

The ECU code 7 is for the throttle position sensor.

Check that the connections to both of these sensors is clean and tight.

Clear the ECU and TCU memory by removing the 7.5 amp backup/radio fuse from the engine bay fuse box for a minute. Drive the car for a bit and recheck for new codes.

You may have damaged a ground or pinched some wiring when you had the fender bender. I don't think the VSS being bad would cause the wipers not to work. I think that you should look for damaged grounds.

Here is a link that you can copy and paste into your browser. It shows some of the grounds. That site doesn't have the complete 91 shop manual. You may have to do some electrical testing with a volt meter to figure out why each component is not working. It is tedious, but definitely doable. You might want to buy a shop manual for the 93. One source is to buy from Ebay in pdf form.

Check ECU code again. You are likley reading code 17, VSS circuit fault. Generally, when VSS fails, both ECU and TCU set a code.

good luck
