Default Wanting to buy my first Accord.

I've always heard great things about Hondas and I am starting to look for an Accord and was wondering what year they discontinued the 90-93(I know these years have the ultra durable 4 cyl.)type 2.2 .
Did they use this engine up to 97 andmy other questions areis the newer 4cyls just as good or is the newer 6cyl. the way to go as far as durability?

I really like the 98 Accord styling but reliabilty is much more important to me.

Any help regarding these questions will be greatly appreciated..thanks.

They used the F22 from the 90-93 gen up until 97, in 98 they started using the F23. They all pretty much the same with reliability. 5th gen 94-97 is by far the best built.

it finally comes out, that is sig worth right there.

the 90-93 accords had the F22A series where the 94-97 had the F22B series, very very similar motors, as well as the F23 in the 6th gen accords.

The 1990-1993 (4th generation) DX and LX trim Accords featured a 125 HP F22A1 engine, and the EX trim Accords featured a 130 HP F22A4 engine. The 5th generation Accords (1994-1997) seem to be the most popular generation by many Accord owners, me personally being one. On the 5th gen Accords, the DX and LX trims featured a 130 HP F22B2 engine, and the EX trim featured a 145 HP VTEC engine, the first engine of its series to feature VTEC. All engines from 1990 to 1997 are SOHC and have a displacement of 2156 cc, or 2.2L. Many people will agree that after 1997, the quality of the Accords went downhill, the 5th generation being the tanks of the Accords. If you can, try to find a 1997 Accord coupe with a 5 speed, although the 1994-1996 Accords will suffice too (Through the years, the Accords went through slight minor cosmetic changes such as the elimination of a pole antenna in 1996 and the addition of a trunk entry behind the fold-down armrest in the backseat in 1997). Oh, and if you ever have the money and are up to it, you should swap that F22 for a H22 (Prelude and Accord SiR engine). The H22s are more powerful than the F22 and have a DOHC VTEC configuration with horsepower anywhere between 190 to 220. Good luck in finding your Accord!

Thanks for all your replys.

My love of "swapping cogs" are long gone but as I said reliability is of utmost importance now, coupled with comfort and MPG of course, and even though I would rather have an auto, manuals haveless chanceto fail if used and not abused IMO.

Even though I like the 98' look a little better,I will definetly limit my search to the 94-97 since that has been suggested hereand if anyone would know, you guys would for sure and I cant thank you guysenough for some direction .

I wouldn't mind putting a RSX K20 in a 02 EX coupe to see how that turns out, lol.
