Default 1998 Accord - Brake flush

I plan to flush the brakes on my Daughter's 1998 Accord - 4 cyl, auto.

We had it for 6 years and wasn't flushed.
I read that I am supposed to use HONDA DOT 3 brake fluid. Is this true?
I can't use branded DOT 3?

or at least Prestone DOT 3 "for Hondas"?

If it doesn't matter, I can use Store brand DOT 3?

Dot 3 is Dot 3; not sure why Honda thinks otherwise.

Does that mean I can use Prestone Power steering fluid too?

I wouldn't go that far. Lol. Really it's your choice. I always use Honda PS fluid if I don't have that I'll put other fluid in. The only thing I am particular about is the trans fluid. That I always use Honda no matter what.

PS fluid is different, so you can sometimes find fluid that says "FOR HONDA/ACURA" which is OK, but don't use the stuff that says for all cars. But actual Honda PS fluid isn't stupidly expensive either.

Auto-Trans fluid is different also.

What Jim said, "Auto-Trans" fluid...

For Hondas and Acuras with manual transmissions the consensus is ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified (formerly known as GM Synchromesh Friction Modified). Honda MTF makes many of their transmissions shift like crap, especially the 6-Speed units.

OK Then I guess I better use Honda Gasoline? LOL - joking

Thanks for the info! Honda everything (fluid), but Gasoline and Brake fluid can be "standard".

Yeah, coming from having "other makes" learning that most of the uses Honda only fluids was a big learning experience. I've found that I like the Honda power steering fluid, as it helps the system run quieter than the non-Honda fluid. I have 1 Honda that uses Honda ATF, so no Dexron in it. I haven't tried Synchromesh in the Honda MT, but I did change the fluid in my 97 with Honda MTF. Can't say if it was better or not, as it felt the same.
At least DoT3 brake fluid is the same, regardless of who makes it.
