1998 Honda Accord LX - Will not start.. key turns, 1 click.
 

1998 Honda Accord LX. 130k miles. Battery is about 6 months old.

Car has been working perfectly fine. Got a full tuneup in feb. Oil change was 2 weeks ago.

I got home from work. 2 hours later, go into my car to go somewhere and it wont start. I turn the key, and I hear 1 click. Then nothing. As many times as I try, I will only hear 1 click then nothing. Lights all come on, radio works.

I tried jumper cables with my roommates car, had it connected for a few minutes.. tried again. Same issue. I turn the key, 1 click, thats it.

Did some research and people have been leaning towards having to change the starter. I was wondering, how much does this cost to do? I'm by no means a mechanic nor do I even know too much about cars. I will most likely be taking this into a shop to get done. Just wanted to get an estimate on an average cost to get the starter replaced..if that is even the problem.

I am willing to try anything to fix this. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

its very possible it could be the starter?when you hear the 1 click where do you hear the click come from?it just mite be a bad connection some where?clean the battery posts an cables,clean the connection cables at the starter.
i would make sure that you have good continuity on all your cables before you have a mechanic charge you anywhere from $200 to $300 to install a starter!
to bad you cant DIY cause in the 4th.generation hondas starters are very accessible!alot eaiser to get to then alot of other cars iv worked on.
For example 2001 Honda Eliment,you need to disconnect the intake manifold from the block just to have access to the starter

Where is the "Click" coming from.

If its the engine bay - its probably the starter.

If its an electrical "click" in the dash - Its the ignition.

If its the starter - Its about $100 from Autozone. very simple to change.
If its the ignition - Its about $350 online

Check your battery first, Make sure you have power.

Check your battery terminals to find the one that is loose (or corroded) and tighten or clean it. If both are clean and tight then follow the cables and see if they are loose on the far end and if so tighten them.

I searched and tried the hammer trick. I was able to get my car started, took it down to my friend's shop.

Got a new starter/solenoid put in and everything is fine now. I'm glad it wasn't anything worse..
