Default 1st Oil Change?

Just got a 2007 Accord SE (4 cylinder, Automatic) yesterday. The salesman said to do the 1st oil change at 3,000 miles. Looking in the Owner's Manual under "Break-In", it says to do the 1st change when the oil life monitor calls for it. At what mileage does the oil life monitor generally call for the 1st change?

Thanks for the info. The salesman was new to Honda, so I feel more comfortable with info. from this forum.

normally you let the first one go to 4500-5000 so that it's well circulated and then chagne it every 3000 there after

probably not, I know I dont. even with today's advances in motor oil it all comes down to how hard you drive and the condition of the engine, and oil only lasts so long before it breaks down.

does anyone use synthetics? I'm new to Honda, recentley purchased an old one. I've always used high quality synthetic in my VW TDI. We get 10,000 miles before any loss of oil performance.

I have used synthetics on my civic and it worked great.... It was a 94 with about 135k miles when I switched over... I personally would never got 10k miles between oil changes in ANY vehicle but if you felt comfortable doing it in a VW then it should be just fine for you in a Honda

I change my oil every 3k. On customers cars we tell them to change it when it says 15%. I've seen that anywhere between 4k and 11k depending on driving habits.
