buy another can of seafoam and throw half in the crankcase and dump the other half in the gas just for good measure. then just drive around, don't need to change the oil again. do this for about a week and report back.

I actually had another half can of Seafoam from another vehicle, so I had put that in the gas tank yesterday and filled the tank up. So, I can put half a can in my crankcase and run the engine like that? I thought that Seafoam would break down the viscosity of the oil making it dangerous for the motor to run long term. I have to drive 180 miles this weekend, and it's not that I doubt you, but I will probably wait to put the Seafoam in it until after I'm back in town.

no, it won't cause any issues. it will eventually vent out through the pcv system.

So I thought I should update, it's been over a week since I ran the car with half a can of Seafoam in it. The lifter noise has gotten better, it is a little more constant than originally stated, however it is MUCH quieter. I can't hear it unless the window is down and I'm driving less than 25 mph. This is enough of an improvement that I won't be looking at fixing it anytime soon. I'm going out of town again and I think I'm gonna put the other half a can in the crankcase again and just ride it out and see if it improves further.

Dr. Drivability -Thanks for your simple and logical reply to strange noises. I have a similar problem after getting back a 1997 Accord V6 I gave to my sister years ago. Now that my kids are close to driving age I thought the old EX would be a good first car so it has returned. I figure the oil hasn't been changed since I gave it up and some returns and guides are likely caked with sludge. I did a quick check if users had used Seafoam or Marvel Mystery Oil with any success. Hi Everybody, i am new user, excelent post. I am from Colombia and i have a Honda Accord 1996 V6 2.7 EX with 111k Miles, this car was imported in 1997 by USA Embassy in Colombia. I has been with this problem for long time :(, and i tried many things: Original Oil Filter, Motorkote products, etc... Currently my car has 20w50 oil (Wife's Mistake :( ) and my car always have 10w30 oil, the oil recommended is 5w30, my question is it does not produce leaks?. And what other ideas suggest me before change to Lifts/Tappets?.

You can try some of the things listed in this thread....I'll be honest and didn't re-read the whole thing.

With seafoam you can kind of "dose" up the oil just before an oil change to breakdown the "big bits", then when you change the oil shortly later there is a small amount you can add (1/2 oz per qt ???? :shrug:, read the can) with the fresh oil.

I would stick with the OE weight oil, should be on the oil fill cap or in the owners manual.
