2000 Accord 6cyl LX Vtech Stalling isuue
 

My 2000 Accord LX 6cyl Vtech is having stalling issues. Most of the time it will start up with no problems when the engine is cold, but if I make a quick stop and try to start it again, it will sometimes turn over for a second and then stall. I usually have to wait about 5-10 min before attempting to start again. Stalling doesn't happen EVERY time I try to start it when hot, but it always struggles a bit until I get moving for a while. After reading some forums and talking to some motor head buddies, I found that the common answer was my fuel pump being faulty. I replaced the fuel pump, but the problem still occurs. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Get in the habit of turning the key to the II position, but not trying to start the car. Listen for the fuel pump to turn on for about 2 seconds in the middle of the clicks. It is a faint buzzing/whirling sound that comes from the back seat, so make sure the radio, etc is turned off.

Let us know if the pump primes when the car does not start.

Yes, I let the fuel pump prime before every start. I had no idea I was supposed to do that until this problem started. My new fuel pump has been primed before every start.

You don't really HAVE to do that, but it doesn't hurt. It's just a good suggestion when trying to figure out a non-starting problem.

Yeah, I don't know many people that actually prime the fuel pump first, but if it takes some strain off of everything while starting I will keep doing it.
The car stalled on me today after driving 2 min to the gas station, shutting her off, filling up, then starting again. It's getting pretty aggravating.

I think that it is fair to assume that your problem is not from the fuel side of things.

Start the car and shake the key while the engine is running. Will that cause the engine to stall?

Also does your check engine light turn on when driving? I would stop by an AutoZone and have the code(s) scanned anyway.

Does the 2000 V6 have a distributor? Are your maintenance items up to date?

No check engine light comes on when driving. I will try to shake my key in the ignition and see if that will cause it to stall, and get back to you. So, Autozone will know what to check for if I tell them my problem? What kind of code(s) would they be checking for?

They'll plug a code reader into your car & read whatever error code it says. They don't have to have anything specific in mind.

Make sure to get the actual code number (P1234 or whatever) not just the guy's description.
