I'm a new honda owner and my accord has very high miles and I want to keep it as healthy as possible while it's running good.what motor oil do i need to use in it for best life and results? I know to use 5/30 but is there a certain brand I need to be running for best results? or do i need to change weights as well? also, should I be using high milealge oil? thanks in advance for any info on this

I just got the car and the old owner was having a shop change the oil which I DO NOT like. they tend to use whatever oil they have on hand. i've not had it long enough to know whether it really uses any or not but with 266K i'm sure it uses some LOL!

just change the oil yourself with mobil 1 high milage or whatever you would like. Then drive it like you normally would, if it uses oil then it uses oil. Putting "special" oil in it will not change the fact that the motor has 266,000 miles on it.

I wouldn't necessarily use "high mileage" oil unless/until you discover something particular. Like leakage or maybe low compression.

Personally I don't think that there is an appreciable difference between them, just different mixtures of additives designed to help keep higher milage engines cleaner.

If your engine consumes little if any oil and doesn't leak, then there really is no benefit to using high mileage oil.

I just changed it useing castrol high mileage oil. I started to get the mobile 1 but noticed it was a full synthetic oil so i stayed away. i've heard to many nightmares when switching to full synthetic. we'll see how she does from here.
