2000 Accord Ex - Interior Lighting Issue

Hi Everyone:

Any troubleshooting info you can share with me would be greatly appreciated. As the heading to the this post states, I have a 2000 Accord with about 135,000km on it. For the last 6 month the drivers side door controls and the radio/cruise control button on the steering wheel no longer light up at night. I've gone to Honda and they do not offer any advise other than let us look at it $$$$$chi ching$$$$.

Ihave looked at the fuses and whatever relays I could find but nothing seems to be controlling those lights. I even took off the window/mirror control module from the door to see if there were any screw in lights like the dashboard cluster, but there was nothing. It seems that they are sealed units with permanent LED's ..... not tooo sure.

I'll try to take a few pictures and post them upby tomorrow.

Any info would really help.
Thanks.

Here's pic. Circled in red are the areas I'm referring to that no longer light up at night.

Self-diagnosis of the problem will require knowledge of how to read electrical schematics and use of a digital volt meter. You'll need to know which wires in the wiring harness connector (at the drivers door switch panel) supply voltage to the switch lights.

After the schematics tell you this, you'll know whether the problem is switch related $$ or something wor$e.

I'd try troubleshooting the door lights first. You have every right to be nervous (without knowing why) when working around the steering column. Treat the airbag as a bomb because it is. Battery needs to be disconnected and a specific procedure followed prior to disconnecting the air bag (if needed).

Safety First!

thanks for the info. Any good manuals available on the accords which would help with the wiring of the car other than the ridiculously expesive service manual sold by Honda?
