2001 4cy ATX 3rd trans is failing...Need Opinioins!
 

Have to change the trans every time you get an old change with this 01 accord....still can't believe the engineers they had designing this crap.
Slightly under 200k miles..body in decent condition (some rust, not too bad). Engine runs perfectly, no leaking, no burning oil...starts up in half second.
But like title says, the THIRD trans is shifting like garbage until it warms up. Obviously this is a 22 year old car and Paying $$$ to put in another trans is a risk. A used trans would really be the only sensible choice BUT, how fast till that one BLOWs Up.
ANybody been in this situation or has IDEAS/INPUT?

The V6 trans seemed to have more failures vs the 4-cyl from my reading on here. There are 4-cylinder transmissions that haven't failed with over 200K miles. I'd weigh the cost of replacing vs the cost of a replacement vehicle. Then you'll need to make the call on how long the transmission must last before you saved money. It is a gamble if the replacement transmission fails quickly unless you have a warranty. Tough call on a 22 year old car.

The first TWO were straight from HONDA...the last one was a FULL rebuild from a Transmission Company. I keep the synthetic trans fluid perfectly clean AND i have a trans COOLER installed.
Automatic transmissions have been around for 100 YEArs...There are infinite examples on what has worked and been terrible....how the hell do companies approve full production ATX's that are TRASH. Facepalm
