2001 Accord VTEC Change Spark Plugs/Wires
 

Hello all,

I apologize in advance if this is a very novice/noob question.

I have an '01 3.0L VTEC V6 accord and was thinking of changing the spark plugs. I also have the Honda Service Manual but it does not mention anything about VTEC engines.

I bought some Denso KJ16R-L11 spark plugs and wires to do the replacement myself. I looked up some videos on youtube and was pretty confident to do the task until I opened the hood and found that it does not look as easy as it looks on youtube. (please see the attached image of the engine).

I removed the black engine covers and noticed that the spark plugs are not as simple as "twist and un-click". They are tork screwed and look very different (Maybe coz it's VTEC).

So before I start tinkering around I thought I should "consult" someone here.

Any tips/help are, as always, greatly appreciated.

The NGK plugs that are recommended ar the PZFR5R-11. The Denso match is PKJ16CR-L11. Those are the platinum electrode plugs and last ~90K miles. Without the P, they may be the copper electrode. There should be a sticker under your hood telling you which spark plugs are recommended for your accord.

You car has individual coils for the ignition system. You won't need the spark plug wires, because your engine does not have them.

All you have to do it remove the torx screws (#2), then unplug the electrical connector to #1. You can pull off the coil pack (#1) from the top of the spark plugs.

Also, do you know what is torque to tighten the spark plugs?
