2002 coupe i4 bad auto trans pleas help
 

Hi everyone new here. So i have a chance to buy a 2002 accord coupe with a bad auto trans with only 64k on it :( for 2500:). it has some goodies on it after market exhaust front rear after market lights intake nice sound system rims etc after some research i found that its a common problem and these transmissions are the suck. i also read people fixing them and having the same problems shortly down the road. so the question is what are my options? is there any other transmission from other cars (acura)that will be a fit/eliminating transmission problems? i also read about manual transmission swaps? im really new to hondas so any information suggestions links would be greatly appreciated. i have researched allot but i seem to be stuck in the same place (confused) thanx

There are not major problems with honda manual transmissions. Converting your car to a MT would require a lot more parts than you would think of. It is doable. Just search for manual transmission swap on this site to see some detailed responses.

I am not sure what transmission from acura would directly bolt up to the 98-02 F23 block. I think Acura ATs had similar problems in that era.

An OBD2 transmission from a 96/97 accord or 96 prelude may work. You would have to search around or ask on a forum like Hondaswap to find out what you would have to do to use these transmissions.

Hondas and Acuras have issue with auto transmission especially 98-02 Accord,99-03 Odyssey and TL. Not sure which other model will fit in your car, but if you do find one that can fit it, you might also need a TCM and complete wire harness for your tranny. Or you can have a good tranny shop rebuild yours and ask for a good warranty. Good luck.
