2003 Honda Accord ex cranks wont start

Hi HondaForum,

I have a 2003 Honda Accord Ex which cranks but wont start for a long period.
If I keep trying I have some success at starting and it runs perfectly after starting, however, if I stop and try a restart it just cranks.
There are no error codes on OBD, the green key symbol is out when trying to start so I think key is ok.
I can hear fuel pump running and when removing fuel line from engine I get fuel.
Thanks,
KevinP

Try turning the key to the II position and let the fuel pump prime, but don't try to start the car. Turn the key off, then repeat priming the fuel system a few more times, then try to start the car. Let us know what happens.

Hi PAhonda,

Appreciate the reply, tried the process of priming the fuel line as described. switched keys 5 times with wait in between. Still fails to want to start at any point.

Try the same thing again, but don't wait between primes. As soon as you hear the fuel pump kick off, turn the key off then immediately back on, repeat. On the last one, turn the key to start when the pump is priming. I'm trying to have you verify the check valve isn't shot on the fuel pump and you are simply losing fuel pressure,

PAhonda, I put a pressure gauge in fuelline and see it gets about 31lbs, it gradually drops off after you stop priming.

If the pressure gauge is hooked up properly and working properly, fuel pressure spec is 48-55 psi.

If you are sure the gauge is setup and reading properly, the next step is to replace the fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter then repeat the fuel pressure test. The pressure regulator and filter are part of the fuel pump assembly and are both replaceable.
