2004 Accord questions
 

Hello all,

My name is Dale and I am new to this forum. I have some questions about my model year.
I own a 2004 Accord EX-L Sedan - Silver/ 4 cylinder / automatic . I purchased the car new and also bought the 100,000-mile warrantee from the dealer at that time. I drive 50 miles a day to and from work. My car has 77,500 miles on it and is still going strong. I have had some problems with brake issues, having to replace rotors and pads at 40,000 miles and such, which I think I have now solved.
To date the following has failed on the car, which was covered under the extended warrantee: “Right rear wheel bearing”. Other than that, no other problems.
My question is, what can I expect to fail on the car (if anything) if I choose to keep it for another 100,000 miles?

At 105,000 miles, you will need a new timing belt and when they do that, you should also have a new oil pump and tensioner installed while they are in there .... ~$600 job. Also, you should change all fluids at that time, radiator hoses and any vacuum hoses that feel too stiff or brittle.

Seafoam, Marvel Mystery Oil, Fuel Injection Cleaner and an engine flush are all good ideas as well.

No timing belt on that engine. Beginning in 2003 the Accord 4-cylinder (K-series) has a chain.

Thank you for the heads up and your responses....I have also heard that the water pump tends to go bad around 100,000 miles...Has anyone heard of this?

Q&A: Oil Change: If you look in the owners manual it will state when to charge your oil. Severe condition 5,000 and extreme 10,000 (something like that). I had asked at what miles do I change the oil, from the dealer where I purchased the car. They say every 3,000 (even though the manual says 5,000 or more)...Then I called another dealer and they say every 5,000. Then another and they say 5,000. Each dealer said that if I had a V6, I would need to change it at 3,000. So, taking that advice, I have been doing it every 5,000 ever since. Saving me a lot of money along the way as I put about 1,300 miles on it a month. Now that the car is getting older and I have 77,000 plus miles on it...Would it be safer to change it every 3,000 or continue with my 5,000 routine?

Oil change intervals is like discussing politics or religion...

Anyway, up through 2002, the waterpump was driven by the timing belt. When you changed the timing belt (every 90k miles) most people put in a new waterpump just because it's a whole repeat of the entiretimingbelt job just to get at the waterpump.

Beginning with the K-series engine in 2003 the waterpump is driven by the external serpentine belt. It can be changed relatively easily so I wouldn'tchange it until it starts leaking or making noise.

I have a 2004 accord ex 6cyl sedan and i cant seem to figure out how to down load the owners manual from the link you provide. My CD player says ERROR wont eject, or accept a CD and does not play. all other audio works fine HELP !!
