2004 Accord Radio turns off on its own
 

I've found some similar issues using the search but nothing exactly like this. This has happened several times in the past month, although somewhat randomly. It occurred most recently this morning.

I started my car and when I turned the ignition the car started normally and the radio came on(I have the stock radio setup). I didn't turn the radio off before turning the car off last night, so this was fine. I backed out of my parking space and the radio turned off, on its own. The car kept running and nothing else seemed amiss. I pressed the radio's power button and nothing happened. I pressed it again. Nothing. I pressed it a third time and the radio came on and operated properly for the duration of my drive to work.

Any advice on what to check? This doesn't happen every time I start the car, only after it has been sitting for some time (overnight, after being at work all day, etc) and even then, it doesn't occur every day. The radio always powers back up after a few presses of the power button and nothing else is wrong with the car.

You could check for a loose connection on the back of the radio. If only the radio is giving you problems, it is likely the culprit.

Thanks, PAhonda. I removed the big storage compartment near the ashtray and checked the back/underside of the radio. Everything seems properly connected and nothing was loose. Any other thoughts?

Did you find the problem? I have 05 Accord, 150K with identical problem (radio turns off temporarily by itself early in my commute). I let it go for a few months and now the seat belt chime is occasionally acting weird too, like there's a short. Mechanics can't duplicate and want to replace my ignition switch even though it starts fine. Help!

I finally brought it to the local Honda dealership who said the head unit was corrupt. I could send it in for repair($300) or buy a used one on ebay($70-100) and install it myself. I haven't done anything yet, primarily because the problem has improved and happens much less frequently. Doesn't really make sense to me how it fixed itself, but I'm going with it.

I am having the same problem with the honda accord 2004. Radio just turn off and turn on by itself randomly. The problem is getting worse for me because it is more off than on. Have any body found a solution for this?

Thanks for the reply. Was the solder bad, or did you have to replace something? I can't tell by the picture.

Just re-soldered the resistor, specifically the ground side.
