2005 Honda Accord won’t start, please help
 

I drove my car earlier in the morning to run errands and my car worked perfectly fine. Then I got back home and needed to step out hours later only for my car to not want to start. The lights on the dashboard and interior light lit up when I turned the key but that’s it, no power connecting to start up the engine and no revving up sounds.

My neighbor attempted to give me a jump but nothing happened.

This is the first time I’ve had an issue like this since getting my car over a decade ago and I feel like it may be my starter based off of what I read.

Please help. What is the avg cost of repair for this going and what’s the best route to take?

So when you try to start does the starter spin the engine or not?

Assuming the starter does NOT spin the engine, the "caveman test" is to hit the starter with something (location depends on which engine you have) while a helper is turning the key to START. If that makes it start, then your starter needs to be fixed or replaced.

If the starter DOES spin the engine, then we start figuring out whether it's missing fuel, or missing spark, or whatever...

Thanks for your response. It’s a 4 cylinder and the engine doesn’t spin. Im alone until my boyfriend comes by later so I can’t test the starter (nor do I know where it is).

The starter is located under the intake manifold; so, access is not easy unless the intake manifold is removed.

This other thread has a link which includes starter replacement. Usually it is the brushes that wear out on the starter; so, optionally someone mechanically incline can just replace the brushes without buying a replacement starter.
