2006 Hybrid

Help in replacing the air filter.

JimBlake 02-10-2011 04:43 PM

Welcome!
Air filter box opens up with a couple screws, doesn't it?
I'll move this to General Tech where it belongs.

No it doesn't. There are electrical cables attached to the filter box, that are also attached to an adjacent box. It is not just a couple of screws.
Has anyone done this yet?

You shouldn't have to disconnect the electrical connector to the mass air flow sensor, etc. if you are just replacing the filter element. It should be a few screws on the box and then lift up.

There are four screws to remove for access, one of which is buried under two cable that are attached the filter box and the adjacent fuse/relay box that is less than a inch away, and the cables are very short. If I cut the cable retainers I wouldn't be able to replace them.
Not a good maintainability design.
Anyone have a V6 hybrid that has done this? I'm not sure a non hybrid is the same.

I don't have a hybrid, but wiring harnesses normally have clips that can be opened or disconnected to allow you to flex the harness away.

On the 2007 Civics I normally unplug the wire from the MAF sensor just to make it easier.

Found the instructions for the hybrid. The MAF connector should be disconnected.

Jim and Redbull thats for the info. I will give it a try. Having looked at it several times, I see that the cables are attached to the filter box/cover and will not need removing.
Thanks for your help.

2006 Accord air filter

Well, I got it replaced. It wasn't easy. Three cables limit lifting the cover just enough to remove the filter. Force was necessary. Had to cut two cable retainers to get the fredom to lift the filter cover.
Thanks all for the help.
Ciao

Gas Mileage reducion

My 2006 Accord hybrid has shown a markid reduction in gas mileage from a constant 30 in general driving to 24 mpg. It has about 63,000 miles and runs great. These are indicated mpg on the instrument panel.
Any thoughts?
