2008 Accord Coupe SRS reset

Where is the MES connector located on the 2008 Accord Coupe? I need to try and reset the Airbag light.

1. There is no Memory Erase Signal (MES) connector on the 8th generation Accords like previous generations.

2. Did the airbag deploy?

Yes, the airbag was replaced and the Module was also replaced.

There is no resetting of the SRS unit after deployment. The DTC's are suppose to be permanent after a collision and the SRS light stays on. It is software implemented. Honda probably doesn't want the liability of it not working in case of another collision. The SRS unit has to be replaced after airbag deployment.

The SRS unit has a self-diagnostic function. There must be still a problem with the airbag circuit if the SRS unit has been replaced with a new SRS unit and the light is on.

Yes they replaced the SRS Unit ($400.00) and i looked back on the invoice and there was note stating that there was a " 21-10 possibly seatbelt tensioner". So could it be that in the crash the seatbelt tensioner went bad? I thought if the seatbelt tensioner was activated, it wouldn't retract. The belt works fine.

Trouble code 21-10 is an "Open in the Driver's Seat Belt Tensioner".

For the 2-door, before replacing the SRS unit, the SRS unit software version should be checked before installing. If software version is not the latest, it should be updated.

The issue can be:
  • Driver's seat belt tensioner (seat belt and tensioner are replaced together)
  • Poor connection
  • SRS unit
  • Floor wire harness (if floor wire harness is damaged, dealer and shops will not repair; but replace due to liability issues)
To test the tensioner, the tensioner is disconnected and a SRS inflator simulator is connected to that harness connector. (Honda has a SRS inflator simulator that plugs in place where the tensioner is normally plugged into.)
