2009 Intermittent Groaning/Braking and Turning
Bought a 2009 Honda Accord about six months ago. Started noticing a intermittent groaning noise when the brakes were applied, and would continue after starting back up. Took to the shop and got a brake job, no change. It has also started to make the noise when turning at low speed, and it feels like it is coming from directly under the gas & brake pedal. The frustrating thing is that it does not make the noise in the morning, but it does after a day's worth of driving, and then it starts all over again in the morning. I have taken it to two shops, neither of which can find anything wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Possibilities are exhaust system, steering rack (check inner and outer tie-rod ball jts), CV axles (dry axle might groan when turned).

Is it possible to pinpoint the location of the sound?
Big empty parking lot. Open the hood. Have someone walk alongside as you turn/brake or whatever to make the sound. What about a possible vacuum leak at the brake booster (only when you press the brake pedal)? |
Thanks for all the info..I'm taking it back to the garage tomorrow at the end of the day when someone can get in the car with me to hear the noise it's making.

Fixed!
Turns out it was the control arm and ball joint...Fortunately the garage seemed like they knew they had blown the initial diagnosis and did the repair free of charge. Thanks to everyone for suggestions, car is running good as new now.
