2013 Accord push button start sometimes takes 5 tries to start has new battery
At different times we have issue with starting where we have to push button a number of times for it to start car. Have replaced 4 yr old battery. The dash will go to a screen I have never seen which says power on then it will start. It has always started when pushing button one time. Had this problem even before changing out battery. Glad I didn't change battery myself cause the guy at advance auto hooked up device at diagnostic port under dash to not loose memory. He said if I unhooked battery it would loose all memory which I knew but he said in some cases car may not go into reverse and cause issues. Scratching my head less than 50k would not think starter bad.

Does it fail to crank the starter?
- check interlocks like foot on the brake pedal, clutch (if manual), things like that. Or does the starter crank but the engine doesn't fire? - lack of fuel vs. lack of spark? |
Yes Jim it fails to crank the starter we always put foot on brake at start up. Is brake switch in hydraulic system or electrical switch.

Bad Battery

Not sure why I didn't see this before...
Brake switch is near the top of the brake pedal, near the pivot. |
For the 2013 Accord, the possible cause was due to the keyless access control unit software being faulty. There was a Honda technical service bulletin (TSB #13-038) regarding it.

Not just 2013
This issue is not just happening on the 2013 models. I have a 2015 honda Accord exl. Only has 44,100 miles. Have taken the car to dealership 4 times on this issue. They told me my car had a battery with a bad cell. After spending $189 on new battery, the issue happened again. They told me to stop using my key fob and use the other key fob that I got when I bought the car from Larry Miller Honda. That was on July 12. Well it's now August 24 and issue has been happening again. So it's back at dealership.
