84 Accord Idling problems

My 1984 Accord, with a new carburetor, will start and run like a top at 2500 rpm but will not idle at less than that without feathering the accelerator. It will die but will restart easily. Any suggestions? I am not a mechanic so my knowledge is basic.

Humm, this is going to be a bit hard if you are not that good with carb's......

A few questions, with a "little gas pedal" can/will the car idle at ~800 rpm's?

Are the tune up items up to date?

If you have a new carb, the place that installed the carb.....did they give the car back to you this way after the work? Or has it been fine for a while since the work and this is a recent issue?

Idling problem

I bought the carb new and installed it myself. It was bench ready to run. Had a lot of trouble with the vacuum lines. Had a Honda mechanic check them to insure they were hooked up correctly. (The old carb was shot)
The car will not run at 800 rpms. I have to keep reving it to keep it running at that low of rpm. I can hold the accelerator at a level that keeps the car running like a top at 2500, but the slower I try to go the more difficult it becomes. It will die quickly if not revving.

Honda people thought it might be a problem with vacuum.

Tune up items are okay.

Thank yoiu.

Ok, don't take this the wrong way but the fact you installed it helps......skill level :) even though you say basic, most would never try to replace a carb.

With the added info, I'd start with what the "Honda people" said, could there be a vac leak on any of the gaskets or hoses? A bit of carb cleaner might help find this.....don't forget the poor pcv valve.

Let me state now....the only 2nd gen I owned was ~20 years ago so things are "fuzzy" on these.....have 3rd gens, so I'm using what I know about the carb's on them.
